Any intervention on a roof is risky in many ways, if not done by an experienced specialist such as Blue Ox Exteriors in the roofing industry. Unfortunately, sometimes people do not take their time to find a good roofer; they hire an amateur or simply the first roofer they can find – and end up with a bad roofing job.
What can you do if you find yourself in this situation?
Identifying a shabby roofing job is not so difficult; it mostly consists in spotting uneven roofing, inspecting the drip edge flashing, looking for exposed or missing nails (not fully embedded in the shingles), mismatched shingles (e.g. using old shingles with new roofing) etc.
If you have got a bad roofing job, the first step is to check the original contract. More specifically, look for any warranty covering repairs and adjustments, because this way, you can take the situation to court, if necessary, and ask the roofer to fix or pay to repair your roof properly.
But before this, try to have an honest conversation with the roofer you have hired for the job and explain the problem as well as your position. A true professional will stand behind its work and fix its mistake. But if your roofer is unreliable and does not value their customer’s satisfaction, you will have to start drafting a formal complaint to articulate your dissatisfaction and consider litigation.
